Arthur Ravenel, Jr. was born in Charleston, S.C. on March 29, 1927. He graduated from the College of Charleston in 1950, served in the Marine Corps from 1945-1946, the South Carolina State House of Representatives from 1953-1958, and the South Carolina State Senate from 1980-1986.
